HOMEMADE CLEANING PRODUCTS
ALL PURPOSE CLEANER
Mix 1/2 cup vinegar and 1/4 cup baking soda into 1/2 gallon water. Store and use as needed. This is useful for water deposit stains, on chrome fixtures, windows, bathroom mirrors, etc.
BATHROOM MOLD CLEANER
1 part hydrogen peroxide mixed with 2 parts water, in a spray bottle, is effective on tile grout mold. Spray it on and let it sit for at least an hour before rinsing.
DISINFECTING CUTTING BOARDS
Cutting boards used to prepare meat must, at the very least, be washed in the dishwasher. But for cutting boards used to prepare produce, white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide provide an effective solution. Start by using a paper towel to wipe down the board with full strength white vinegar. Then use a second paper towel to wipe it again with full strength hydrogen peroxide. Store the cutting board on edge so that it remains dry.
WINDOW CLEANER
1 gallon water, 1/4 cup white vinegar, 2 TBS lemon juice adn a squirt of dish detergent makes a good solution. For best results, spray it on the windows and wipe it up in random circular motions with old newspaper. Avoid cleaning windows on warm days when direct sunlight is hitting the glass, otherwise they will dry too quickly.
SILVER POLISH
Take a pot large enough to hold your silver, line the bottom with aluminum foil. Add water. For every 2 to 3 inches of water add 1 teaspoon each of baking soda and salt. Bring the water to a boil. Dip the silver pieces in the water and polish with a clean cloth. Two to 3 dips will continue to yield results. CAUTION must be used when handling hot liquids!
