Artist Studio Design
Our client was a sculptor who desired a new artist studio adjacent to her house. We were also asked to assist with the landscaping of the space between the house and the artist studio. We proposed terracing the hillside to allow for easier access around the site. These terraces then became a series of koi ponds linked by small cascades.
The first photo shows the north elevation of the studio and the hill sloping up. The second photo shows the corner window, placed to provide an enticing glimpse across the upper pond. The third image shows an early, conceptual sketch of the terraces and ponds. We find that quick perspective sketches such as this one are effective tools for exchanging ideas between us and our clients.
