California Craftsman Home
The California Craftsman style combines broad overhangs, porches and trellises with extensive use of stucco. This beautiful example from the 1920s needed extensive repairs inside and out. It also lacked a garage.
Our first task was to add the garage to the downslope side, with its flat roof becomeing a terrace off the living and dining rooms. To shelter the view from the neighbors a trellis was built along one side.
Into one of the darker corneres of the main floor we created an entirely new kitchen and breakfast room. Through careful use of materials and finishes we were able to brighten this space considerably.
Throughout the house existing trim was maintained or reconstructed. Floors were refinished and plasterwork repaired. A lighter paint scheme helped to brighten the interior and revive the spirit of the place.
